“Nidahase Mawatha” - Cycle Promotion Program

"Nidahase Mawatha," a new cycling promotion program aimed at promoting bicycle use as a tourism development, personal well-being, and industrial development activity, was launched on February 4, 2023, at the initiative of Hon. Governor Lalith U. Gamage and based on a concept of his excellency.
The first program started with a free bike ride from Peradeniya Botanical Garden to Gannoruwa Agriculture Complex. Various activities and business opportunities had been organized from Dangolla to Gorakadeniya intersection on Peradeniya Gannoruwa Road. A number of stakeholders participated in this event, including those in tourism, sports, agriculture, and many more. Local and foreign tourist groups participated to experience the event. The program was organized by the Industrial Development and Business Promotion Department under the leadership of the Provincial Ministry of Industries with the collaboration of the Provincial Department of Trade, Commerce, and Tourism, the Department of Sports, the Department of Cultural Affairs, the Department of Agriculture, etc. The National Horticulture Department, National Youth Service Council, Hadabima Authority, Kandy District Secretariat, Peradeniya Teaching Hospital staff, Kandy Municipal Council, Biye-B Organization, and Cycling Association of Kandy were present at the event. The event was successfully held in the presence of Mr. Gamini Rajarathna, Chief Secretary, Central Province; Mr. Chandana Tennakoon, District Secretary, Kandy; Mr. Ajith Premasinghe, Secretary, Provincial Chief and Education Ministry, Central Province; Mr. Upali Ranawaka, Secretary, Ministry of Industries; and many other heads of departments and senior provincial officials.
