I am Ms.Anuri Thilakaratne, The Director of Trade, Commerce and Tourism, Central province who directs the Department’s policies and objectives involving local, provincial and the government affairs. Maintain and foster the relationship with the government, associated authorities and all committees, legislatively represent and protect the department interests can be denoted as main tasks of my job role. Also I assist in the establishment of sound strategies, policies and plans which align with the government laws, regulation and standards while leading analysis of proposed legislative actions, determine the potential impact on the department and develop appropriate responses. Additionally I manage the department sub-function within a broader department function creating functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develop budgets, policies, procedures to support the functional infrastructure and delivering strong leadership. Furthermore, it is my responsibility to oversee the department’s day-to-day operation and by translating department goals into actions and nurturing employees talent which are highly instrumental in the department’s success

Women in developing countries are more likely to experience challenges than other individuals in the course of their everyday life. There is a continued inequality and defenselessness of women in all sectors where women remain unrepresented and oppressed. The continued inequality and defenselessness of women in all sectors remain a serious threat to the future democracy. As per my knowledge, although women in public sector remain high, the issues of gender in the public administration have been neglected or marginalized and they experience socio-cultural hurdles in addition to institutional discrimination to climb in the ladder of public sector.

As a public administrative women, I agree that the organizational challenges include barriers in exercising power, long hours’ work, lack of support and respect from male colleagues and staff members and political influences. Moreover, some may experience negative perceptions of society and lack of family support to advance their career.

Establishing women's equal participation and equitable representation, we enhance the education, develop skills on tourism sector while offering employment for women in Central Province. As a result, we do have well trained female site guides, female facilitate providers and female first aiders, female lifesaving guards, female tourism business holders and many more female entrepreneurs involving in tourism sector.  (d) Adopting appropriate measures to improve women's ability to earn income beyond traditional occupations, achieve economic self-reliance, and ensure women's equal access to the labour market and social security systems;
(e) Eliminating violence against women;
(f) Eliminating discriminatory practices by employers against women, such as those based on proof of contraceptive use or pregnancy status;
(g) Making it possible, through laws, regulations and other appropriate measures, for women to combine the roles of child-bearing, breast-feeding and child-rearing with participation in the workforce.
