Travel from Gampola to Panwilatenne Town via Pupuressa Road, turn left to the road going past the Chrysco Farm, to find this memorial about one kilometer down the road.
Robert Knox, an English sailor, was one of the more prolific chroniclers of ancient Ceylon. He landed in Ceylon by coincidence, was captured by King Rajasinghe II and lived in Doluwa as a prisoner for 20 years. He eventually escaped, and wrote the manuscript of An Historical Relation of the Island Ceylon, an account of his experiences on Ceylon, which was published in 1681.
Having studied the 1681 chronicle, J. G. Lewis, the then Government Agent for the Central Province traced back to find the place where Knox lived, and established a memorial.
