Fort Seetha is located about one kilometer into the forest, entering close to the Gurulupotha Rest House on the Kandy-Mahiyangana Highway.
Located in the Minipe Provincial Secretary’s Division, Gurulupotha Fort, the location is not only of historical, environmental and social significance but also a location to attract tourists. It is also a location with natural pathways and the key route is the pathway from Gurulupotha to Fort Seetha.
According to legend, Fort Seetha is the location Seetha Devi was hidden after King Ravana abducted her from India. As such, the Gurulupotha area has become an attraction for Indian tourists.
The Gurulupotha area, where Fort Seetha is, is also of importance as it is located as one passes the Daha Ata Wanguwa – Eighteen Bends- on the Kandy – Mahiyangana Road. It is also at the end of Dumbara Mountain Range travelling from Kandy and also the end of the Dumbara Mountain Range travelling from Mahiyangana. In addition, Gurulupotha area is located in the Victoria – Randenigla Sanctuary involving a number of environmental projects. Today, it has become a major tourist attraction with diversity in fauna and flora. The Department of Tourism of the Central Province has developed this region with rest houses, etc.
