About Us
The Department of Trade, Commerce, and Tourism was established as the official provincial authority in accordance with Section 154A of the 13th Amendment to the Constitution of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka (1978). Pursuant to Article 22 of the Concurrent List of major subjects, the subject of tourism is formally assigned to this Department, granting us the statutory power to regulate and develop the trade and tourism sectors within the Central Province. The Department operates under the comprehensive governance of the Ministry of Chief, Education and Tourism of Central Province.
Tourism Development and Promotion
We are dedicated to enhancing the global visibility of the Central Province, with a strategic focus on the unique cultural heritage and nature tourism found in the districts of Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, and Matale. Our department actively works to develop the tourism industry through:
- Diversification and development of tourist attractions and marketable products Includes developing infrastructure, MICE tourism, and new recreational zones.
- Marketing and promotion of tourism Utilizes digital marketing and information centers to promote safety while developing professional.
- Ensure income generation for the local community through promotion of tourism focuses on empowering local entrepreneurs and establishing community-based tourism villages through technological innovation and entrepreneurship development.
- Capacity development Implements sustainable management frameworks to conserve cultural and natural heritage while ensuring social and environmental sustainability for all stakeholders.
