The Central Province has comparatively better service facilities for tourists since it is one of the developed provinces in Sri Lanka.   Services and facilities for tourists available in the Central Province are briefly noted as follows:

Accommodation

 Accommodation 

The Central Province has sufficient capacity of accommodation facilities to cater both domestic and foreign tourists. It provides quality accommodation facilities in branded hotels including 03 five-star hotels, 04 four-star hotels, 04 three-star hotels, 08 two-star hotels and 06 one-star hotels. The province has more than 125 of unclassified hotels strength as well. The capacity of existing hotel rooms in the Central Province are around 3600 (Kandy-1900, Matale -1000 and Nuwara-Eliya- 700). The Kandy area can accommodate 7500 guests, while Nuwara-Eliya and Dambulla areas can accommodate 3500 and 2500 guests respectively per day. There are many small-scale lodging facilities including camping sites, estate bungalows, guest houses etc. in the area.

Our main concern is to provide protection for tourists allowing them for more freely to visit any place in the province. The central province implements a massive program to ensure tourists protection with collaboration of Police Department of Sri Lanka. Special Police units apart from the general police duties are assigned to serve tourists in all matters of guidance relief in adverse situations they have co-ordination with the tourist hotels and cover locations of the frequent and lodge.

Information for visitors is provided by this web and by information centers located in Kandy city, Nuwara-eliya city and Dhambulla city. In addition, contact information of responsible officers are given in the contact list in this web.

Health Services

Health Services 

Visitors can contact a qualify doctor travelling very short distance and use government health centers and hospitals located every part of the province. Main hospitals are located in Kandy, Nuwara-eliya, Matale and Dambulla cities. In addition, private hospitals and medical centers are located main cities in the province.

Road facilities

 Road facilities

The Central Province is in a strategic geographical location with easy access to any part of the country. The Colombo – Kandy main road provides accessibility to the Central Province from the western province, and it has access to both Polonnaruwa and Anuradhapura, which is frequented by both domestic and mostly international tourists. The Kandy – Mahiyanganaya road and the Kandy - Badulla road provide access to the eastern parts of the country, where famous and beautiful beaches are situated. The province has developed and currently developing road networks.

Transportation facilities

 Transportation facilities 

The province has a moderately developed public transportation service with buses and hired vehicles (buses, van, cars and three whiles). Public transportation services spread almost all the parts of the province and visitors have opportunity to travel any parts of the province using public transportation modes. These services are available at the entire small town in the province.

The Central Province has a railway line from Colombo to Badulla via Kandy, which was constructed during the British colonial period, and is one of the most scenic railway lines in Sri Lanka.

Domestic flight operations have been developed during the past three years in Sri Lanka and as a result, domestic flights have landed to Kandy, Castlereagh, Victoria and Nuwara-Eliya showing an improvement of sea plane operations from Colombo to Central Province.

The province provide banking facilities through 249 bank branches, including 23 international bank branches and 54 other bank branches with ATM facilities. Bank branches with ATM have located in all the main towns in the province.

Communication

The communication sector has recorded a significant growth in the recent past in Sri Lanka. As a result, the companies provide attractive communication services in the province. Majority of international tourists were satisfied with the strength of communication services available in the province.
