Kandy Esala Perahara (Procession) is held every year in the month of August to honour the sacred tooth relic of Lord Buddha. The Procession proceeds along the streets of the Kandy town. During this period foreign and local visitors are staying in Kandy to enjoy the beauty of the town and the surrounding areas and it is needful to inculcate some feeling among them about Sri Lankan heritage, pride and culture. Thereby we have the opportunity to show our historical heritage to the international.
Since 2013 the Provincial Department of Trade, Commerce and Tourism organizes “Visit Kandy Cultural show” a Programme to convey our cultural heritage annually. A lot of foreigners and local visitors have participated at this cultural show with much enthusiasm. At the same time, a Trade exhibition is also organized to display the local handicrafts, Reed ware, Lacquer, Brass & Silver Metal work, Wood craft, and Gem & Jewellery, Batik, and Spice products. The exhibition encourages local entrepreneurs to improve their international relationships.
