Four sites of the Central Province in Sri Lanka have been inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage, namely, the ancient city of Sigiriya (1982), the Golden Temple of Dambulla (1991), the sacred city of Kandy (1988), the Central Highlands of Sri Lanka (2010).

Kandy District

 
Kandy District is one of the attractive districts located in the Central Province in Sri Lanka. Kandy city is the capital city which is the second largest city in the country after Colombo. It was the last capital of the ancient kings' era of Sri Lanka.

Matale District

 
Matale District is located in the northern part of the Central Province, Sri Lanka and it is home for three World Heritage sites; Dambulla Cave Temple, Sigiriya Fortress and Knuckles Range which attract more tourists

NuwaraEliya District

Nuwara Eliya district is located in the southern part of the Central Province. Nuwara Eliya city is the capital city which was built entirely during the 19th century by the British. It is called as “Little England” since it riches with the old colonial building, attractive landscaping and cool climate.

Kandy District is situated in the central high land in Sri Lanka and located 100 km far away from Colombo. The area is situated in a strategic geographical location with easy access to any part of the country.  The Colombo – Kandy main road provides accessibility from the western part of the Island, and it has access to both Dambulla and Sigirya, which is frequented by both domestic and mostly international tourists. The Kandy – Mahiyanganaya roads and the Kandy – Nuwara-Eliya road provide access to the eastern and western parts of the country. The district is a rich and attractive tourist destination with abundant and diverse religious and cultural sites, historical and archeological sites, forests, mountains, waterfalls, scenic locations, botanical gardens, national parks, international stadiums, traditional villages and other attractions.The Kandy city, the last royal capital in Sri Lanka, a world heritage city, is the capital city of the district. The Temple of the Tooth, which houses the sacred Tooth Relic of the Lord Buddha (Sri Dalada Maligawa) is situated in the heart of the Kandy City. Well-known annual religion festival – a procession consisting of traditional cultural and religion events including traditional dancing, drum beating, elephants walking and so many other traditional events – is held in late July and early August. The district has a wealth of beautiful and green mountain ranges including Knuckles Range, Hantana Mountain, Hunnasgiriya mountain ranges. The district is home for diverse and exotic wildlife in Knuckles, Udawaththakele forest, Gannoruwa forest, and forests in Victoria and Randenigala. The famous botanical garden Peradeniya is situated in the area. The province also has a large number of religious attractions including Lankathilaka Temple, Gadaladeniya Temple, Degaldoruwa Temple and Ambakke. Historically important places consisting of Mahawasala, Magul Maduwa, Rajapihilla, Balanakotuwa, Court complex, Queens Hotel, Jems Tailer Museum, and Captain Dosen Tower are popular tourists attractions in the district. There are internationally renowned sporting facilities in the area such as Asgiriya and Pallekele international cricket stadiums and the Victoria Golf course. The area is also home for several traditional and handicraft villages such as Kalakirigama, Kuragala, Kiriwaula, Ambakka and Dumbara.
